Abstract: A verification of a hypothesis that 11 - 12 year old boys could significantly improve their performance by means of a six weeks power training program was attempted. Part of the whole population was classified under fast-twitch and slow-twitch tendency groups. A control group was also utilised. A brief overview was given about the muscle structure, the various energy systems and the biological differences between the child and adult. The training principles and the basic requirements for the development of a power training program were studied and a six week program was created and carried out according to the basic principles. The hypothesis was verified by means of a series of motor performance tests commonly used to measure children's athletic ability. The analysed results and conclusions drawn suggested that little statistical improvement was attained in the training period by the experimental group when compared to the control group.
