Criteria for assessing art works at secondary level from Form I up to Form V

Abstract

The idea and influence behind this research, is based upon our experiences. We wanted to analyse past and present situations about Art Assessment in Malta, in order to find out whether there has been any improvement with regards to this issue. Research and critical thought were conducted upon literature review, as well as through the distribution of questionnaires to Maltese art teachers, together with a collection of some present local and foreign assessment forms. The data was analysed, presented and discussed through the aid of pie-charts, bar-graphs and tables, which point to the fact of urgent need for adequate and maybe even standardised assessment sheets. Hence, we have also presented our assessment sheet proposals. By improving the assessment mode, we will automatically improve Art Education in Malta, and safe guard the students' interest.
