Abstract: The dissertation is an extention of a Unesco/Faculty of Education project aimed at integrating Environmental Education concepts in the Year 5 Primary School Maltese curriculum. The study reviews the available literature on the subject, identifies the nature and causes of environmental, defines the concept of environmental education and lists its aims and objectives. An explanation of its characteristics, with particular reference to the interdisciplinary approach, is also given. After looking at the methods and criteria used to devise the Maltese/Environmental Education activities pack, mention is made of the problems encountered when devising the activities. The study included the reviewing and trying out of the activities by a number of teachers. The results of the evaluation are included in the study. Also included is a brief study on the problems which can hinder the implementation of environmental education in the classroom. The work also comprises an Activities Manual, which is divided in three topics, namely 'L-Iskart u r-Riciklagg' , 'It-Traffiku u t-Tniggiz' and 'Id-Dar, it-Triq u l-Iskola'.
