| Abstract: | Multicultural education in the international sphere has taken root over the years because of its nature. It provides an education that reflects the fusion of diversities, whilst offering an inclusive dimension. In the local context, multicultural education is still a novel idea. Minimal research has been carried out in relation to international pupils within our schools. Moreover, although a number of schools reflect cultural diversities based on different nationalities, no measures have been taken in this regard. The intent of this dissertation is to examme the impact of diverse nationalities on the network of social relationships within a primary setting. To this end, the dissertation portrays the experiences of the different stakeholders involved, and subsequently the interactions between them. This was possible through 40 observation hours and 33 interviews. Results show that the multicultural reality is acknowledged but not catered for. Meanwhile, existing problems of racism are denied as is denied the segregation that occurs amongst the pupils. |
