Abstract: The aim of this study was to create awareness about the situation of students who attend schools situated in deprived areas and to analyse, identify and assess the quality of education found within. This research was based on the Comprehensive Model of Educational Effectiveness designed by Creemers (1994) and it was meant to highlight and assess the quality of education in a particular depressed area whilst identifying all aspects contributing towards educational effectiveness present in the three schools under study. The study focuses on three Year IV classes, their teachers and respective principals. The research was conducted by means of ethnographic methods consisting of unstructured observations in class and unstructured conversations with both staff and administration. The probes used for data collection were those stipulated by Creemers' (1994) model, providing robust data which led to a more detailed analysis of the whole research.
