Abstract: The aim of this research is to document how children of returned migrants adapt to the changes that they go through when they start attending Maltese schools. The study was carried out in local primary schools where questionnaires were distributed to children of returned migrants who were in Year 4 - Year 6 in the scholastic year 1994-1995. Interviews with 20 parents were also conducted. The dissertation commences with the historical background of Maltese migration. Chapter 2, gives a detailed account of how the quantitative and qualitative research study was carried out. Chapter 3 presents an analysis of the questionnaires that were carried out with the children. In Chapter 4, the parents besides, providing a better insight into their children's settlement in Malta, also gave their suggestions about what could be done so that they have better learning environment. The last chapter summarises the findings and offers suggestions about important aspects which emerge from the whole study.
