Abstract: This work consists of an analysis of the orthographic, morphological, syntactic and lexical errors committed by 200 pupils sitting Tor the English paper in the Junior Lyceum Entrance Examination, June 1992. The aim of this work is the categorization of errors committed in English by Maltese pupils and it is divided into five chapters. Chapter One deals with the theoretical aspect of Error Analysis. techniques are discussed. In Chapter Two, various sampling The third Chapter consists of the classification of the errors committed, while the following section, Chapter Four, deals with the analysis of the errors classified in the previous Chapter. Chapter Five deals with the classroom implications of Error Analysis. For the purpose of this study, I have used the pronoun 'she' when referring to the learner and/or the teacher. Also, I have utilised the I sign when listing each error committed and its correct version in place of the phrase "instead of".
