| Abstract: | The purpose of this study is to focus on creating awareness and provide insights that may contribute suggestions which can enhance the school-based mentoring programme in initial teacher education and the training programme for teacher mentors who will eventually be involved in schools mentoring student-teachers and beginning teachers. Mentoring is considered to be a form of support offered by professionals for career development. In addition, this dissertation also includes a discussion regarding two other mentoring approaches, in the business and health sectors. This research study includes multiple semi-structured interviews to teacher mentors who participated in the PGCEM in the year 2016/2017. The interview material contributed to data about how the PGCEM and the school-based mentoring programmes are being implemented and helped identify their strengths and shortcomings. The data emanating from these interviews and research study will contribute to knowledge in the professional field under discussion. As a result, insights on how this mentoring system can be improved will be discussed. |
