Abstract: Fashion in Malta as in most European countries is gaining importance due to many influences. These influences are cited and their implication discussed. While describing the fundamental motives underlying clothes and fashion from a psychological, anthropological, socio logical and historical point of views, this study demonstrates how fashion awareness has increased since post Second World War years in the light of historical, social, political and economic changes. The study, aimed as a resource book for all those interested in the subject, is based on compilation of information acquired from literal research, interviews, empirical observations, a comparability study, and an original questionnaire study. Finally, the Needlework syllabus is studied in the light of these findings and suggested amendments are made to highlight aspects that require emphasis.
