| Abstract: | The aim of this study was to explore perceptions of nurses working in community mental health. A qualitative research design was used. An extensive review of the literature helped design a semi-structured interview schedule. Nurses from Qormi Health Centre, Outreach Team, and from Psychiatric Outpatients were interviewed. Thematic analysis was used. A good nurse patient relationship is based on knowing the client well and consequently establishing trust with clients. Working with a key worker system and being available to the clients were important issues for nurses. The role of the nurses was described as being holistic in nature, and included acting as an advocate for the patient, administration of treatment and home visits. Finally difficulties were discussed by all participants. |
