Abstract

The Arabic language is a challenge for the Maltese student in the Secondary school. A challenge that is faced with inadequate tools and techniques, because what is communicated cannot be said to be something that one can appreciate but to the contrary, something that is forceful and pedantic. Thus, this dissertation, tries to initiate a new trend for the teaching of this Semitic language, by first encouraging the student to learn about the culture of the people w[lo speak this language. This can be carried out through simple folktales, classified under various themes, and accompanied by general information about the themes themselves. In this manner, the students can explore the Arabic world before trying to learn its language.
