Abstract: This dissertation proposes the integration of Environmental Education with the teaching of Italian in secondary schools. This was achieved through ·a programme of motivating language exercises focused on particular environmental issues. The methodology adopted attempts to help students in the analysis of Italian texts, derived from the lyrics of eight popular Italian songs. Throughout the text analysis exercises, students are led to become aware, understand and discuss environmental issues pertaining to the Italian and the local context. The effectiveness of this programme has been evaluated by teachers presently teaching Italian in state secondary schools. Results showed that the programme was effective in both the teaching of Italian and Environmental Education.
