Abstract: The aim of this study is the familiarisation with children living in an oppressed community to assist them in their development through the use of Boalian techniques, which will empower them with the necessary skills to deal with oppression. Children living in an oppressed community are at risk of growing up with a feeling of incompetence, very low self-esteem and disrespect if left unaided. The study is part of a project held in a particular school located in an area which is considered to be one of the oppressive communities in Malta. Twelve Drama Sessions, based on Boalian techniques, are conducted with a Year 4 class in this school. Five pupils are selected through participant and non-participant observations held before the commencement of the Drama Sessions. Qualitative Data is gathered from observing these pupils during the Drama Sessioi:-is and from the documentation of these sessions on videos, together with the analysis of the interviews with the children under study and the class teacher. Profiles of the case studies are built, portraying their learning experiences in these Drama Sessions. The identification of various limitations together with possible recommendations follow. It is finally concluded that since Drama provides the right guidance, it is indispensable to ameliorate the children's lives when dealing with oppression. The implementation of Boalian techniques is strongly recommended.
