Abstract: | After considering the implication of environmental education on primary school practices, this study focuses on the implementation of environmental education principles in the current school curricula. This project aims at producing an environmental education pack for primary school teachers in San Gwann. 'Exploring San Gwann ' is based on a set of eight walks around the town. These urban walks aim at familiarising the students with the historical, cultural, social, geographical and natural dimensions of their home-town environment The pack's activities are related to the present Social Studies' syllabus of the Primary School and the National Minimum Curriculum's philosophy of inter-disciplinarity, learner centred education and interface with community resources. This pack is presented in the form of a 'Teacher's Companion' including the eight itineraries for the walks, suggested remote preparation, on-site and follow-up activities and pupil's worksheets. The effectiveness of the project was evaluated with a sample of teachers. |
