| Abstract: | The main objective behind this study is to show the importance of music education across the curriculum, focusing on years 1, 2 and 3 at primary level. It also encourages non-specialist teachers to include a music lesson on their timetable. This study investigates the present attitude of teachers towards music education. The introduction to this study takes into account the various aspects of music education. The second chapter investigates the different approaches and methodologies other countries use while the third chapter focuses on our views regarding music education. It also shows the current situation in Malta. Chapter 4 describes the methodology used in thi~ study while the fifth chapter includes the results obtained from the questionnaires set to primary teachers, as well as a detailed analysis of the results. The concluding chapter includes an overall summary and a number of recommendations believed to bring about the so much desired changes in the teaching of music education. The guidebook found as appendix is for primary school teachers. It includes a set of lesson plans categorized under the topics: listening, singing, rhythm, movement and musical instruments. |
