Abstract: This study centres around two word-recognition tests: 'English Word-Reading Test 711' and 'Maltese Word-Reading Test'. The original tests are re-standardised upon a sample of local government primary school ls (954 for the English test and 508 for the Maltese test). The pas of time with it changes in the curriculum, organisation, motivation and teaching methods; test norms thus have to be updated norms for both tests are provided; norms are presented as well. An item analysis of both word-recognition tests supplies interesting facts about the statistical properties of test items. The original tests are rearranged according to the difficulty levels obtained the item analysis. Throughout the study, ' performance in the tests emerges as be sup or to that of of the same or level.
