A programme of soccer sessions in physical education in the primary school

Abstract

This dissertation illustrates the present situation regarding the practices of soccer sessions in the local primary schools. Focus is given to the professional preparation of teachers for the teaching of soccer, the schools' provision of facilities and equipment, the commitment to attend courses and the teachers' attitudes towards the game. The early part of the dissertation deals with the present situation of teachers and schools vis-a-vis physical education and soccer. A review of literature follows giving an idea of what has been done so far in this field. Available resources are listed as a teacher's guide to the game. The research design has been divided into two separate sections, Part 1 dealing with the questionnaire distributed and Part 2 concerning the set up of a lesson. The analysis of the questionnaire 1s dealt with, in Chapter 4. The recommendations as to the teacher's approach to the sessions make up Chapter 5. In the concluding chapter, suggestions based mainly on the results obtained are presented. The main aims of the football programme, which if put into practice, are aimed at improving the general quality of soccer in the local primary schools are also put forward. The lesson plans are placed in an appendix and compiled Part 2 of the dissertation.
