| Abstract: | The aim of this dissertation was to develop a number of worksheets, onscreen activities and games after reviewing current research related to the teaching and learning of measurement. Our aim was to supplement the Abacus Scheme 2 and the software which is being used in Year 3 State School classes. Hence, when designing the activities, we referred to the current mathematics syllabus for primary schools and to the Abacus Scheme 2. Some of the worksheets, onscreen activities and one game were tried out with four 7 year old pupils of different abilities. We conducted each trialling process with two pupils every time. The feedback obtained from the observations and the interviews were critically analysed and according to these, the trialled activities were amended. All worksheets, onscreen activities and games were compiled in a handbook while the onscreen activities were also presented on a CD. We hope that this handbook will be used by teachers when teaching Measurement to Year 3 classes. |
