Abstract: A phenomenon which is closely tied to children's literature is that of adapting books to films. Recent years have brought about the introduction of supplementary material upon a film's launching. One of the key elements of such a tendency is that of publishing a related book, which is either an adaptation or else a faithful reproduction of the film. This trend was similarly adopted in Malta whereby a set of eight books bearing the Disney tag was published as a Ladybird series in collaboration with Merlin Library and adapted to Maltese. The aim behind this dissertation is to illustrate how these books could be used as an additional resource in the teaching of Maltese reading to children in the fifth year of primary schooling. Departing from the viewership of the five films tackled in this dissertation, the teacher will be able to build upon the children's visual motivational experience by being provided with material which enhances the children's literacy skills, with a particular emphasis on the reading aspect. This approach helps children to establish a relationship and thus make a link between visual and print literacy. Entertainment, enjoyment and stimulation through reading are just some of the advantages from which children who are introduced to this pedagogy, will benefit.
