Abstract: The current study investigated the Midweek Project in one Primary State School. Research focused on whether the objectives set by the Midweek Project Committee for the implementation of this project were being met. The .. constraints that could hinder the realisation of these aims were considered. Research took place during the scholastic year 1998/1999. Questionnaires were conducted with eight teachers and with children in Year 3-6. Interviews were conducted with the infant classes (Years 1-2) and with the Head of School. Systematic classroom observation during the Wednesday afternoons ensured more reliable results. Results showed that children enjoyed arts and craft activities most, and they also reported that they would like to have more of these activities. Drama, music and movement and dance were not frequent. However, academic work was still present during the hours allotted for creative work. The majority of the teachers were in favour of having this project as a compulsory part of the primary program. The results obtained helped researchers to identify the benefits as well as the drawbacks faced by the school in implementing the project.
