Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether effective learning was taking place in a State and/or Church school. Cremeers (1994) comprehensive model of educational effectiveness was used as a foundation for the thesis. Classroom observations in two Year 3 classes were conducted so as to understand the classroom level as well as the school and national context. This research demonstrates that there are variations at the class and school level influencing student outcomes.
