Ladybird key word reading scheme illustrations and the teaching of English in Maltese primary schools

Abstract

The main themes in my dissertation are illustrations, Ladybird Keyword Reading Scheme Illustrations and the teaching of English in Maltese Primary Schools. The first part is dedicated wholly to an analysis of illustrations in general. Importance is given to the part played by illustrations both in the teaching of reading and in the teaching of language. The criteria established in Part One are then applied to the illustrations present in the L.K.W.R.S.-in Part Two. The value of the L.K.W.R.S. illustrations in language teaching is the current theme. The final part of my dissertation covers an account of a survey which I myself carried out in some Maltese Primary School. The survey's aim is to show how the teacher can check on a child's use of English by using the L.K.U.R.S. illustrations.
