| Abstract: | This dissertation aims at investigating educational dance in the Maltese Primary Schools and Dance Schools for the under 12's (Primary Level). It also investigates the perceptions and attitudes of teachers, instructors and parents whose children attend extra-curricula dance programmes. The first chapter gives an explanation of reasons for investigating the area. Chapter two gives an understanding of the nature of dance educationalists' and artists' contribution to child development: the content of a variety of dance programmes in curricula. Chapter three develops for the purpose of inquiring; namely gives a detailed description of the three questionnaires and various aspects related to the inclusion and implementation of dance in schools and in extra curricula programmes. This seeks to find out the teachers knowledge of the dance content. Chapter four includes discussions and a comparative analysis of the findings and response obtained from the British Dance Organisations . The last chapter is a proposed improvement of the dance content for primary age children in schools together with the identification of themes for each singing game and folk dance, accompanied by the relevant music. |
