Abstract: The study explores how different texts from daily newspapers can be used in different classes. In the first part of my research I examine the basic layout of Italian newspapers and issues pertaining to the different sectorial languages included therein. This is done in order to provide guidelines for the Italian L2 teacher, based on the linguistic characteristics of newspaper articles and the indications in the syllabus, in order to be able to select suitable texts. The research question "To what extent are Italian newspapers suitable to be used in the classroom?" was answered by the research done, as I pointed out which characteristics an article has to have in order to be suitable for the Italian L2 classroom. The main focus of this analysis is the verbs used in these articles and their classification according to acquisitional sequences. I also discuss changes, which may be done in order to adapt newspaper articles to the L2 classroom context. I analysed the newspaper 'La Repubblica' because it is a newspaper that is easily accessible in Malta. From this newspaper, I analysed five different sections: cronaca, sport, economia, cultura and politica. From each section, I chose four texts that can be used in the classroom, especially as far as length is concerned. After the research, it was possible to point out some articles that are more suitable than others for the Italian L2 class.
