Abstract: It is clearly seen that in the last few years, Physical Education was subject to great changes and improvements. However, much work has yet to be done. Amazingly we are presented with enough proof of the beneficial aspects that physical activity has on the disabled persons but the actual encouragement for their involvement seems to be lacking. Physical Education is a need in the modern school curriculum and a programme for the normal pupil is at hand. A modern educational approach requires modern ideologies. Research shows that Physical Education is of greater importance for the disabled than for the able bodied. The need for a Special Physical Education Programme is greatly felt. Apart from the therapeutic values, psychological and sociological aspects are involved, all of which are dependent on one another and are of equal importance. The primary objective lies in the narrowing of the old fashioned social gap that exists between the handicapped person and the able bodied.
