Adolescent problems with special reference to self-esteem and anxiety

Abstract

The aim of this dissertation was to identify adolescent problems and to see how much they related to self-esteem. Quantitative data was collected through a questionnaire given to a sample of 150 adolescents attending 2 Junior Lyceums (Liceo Vassallo boys' Junior Lyceum and Maria Regina girls' Junior Lyceum). The Chi-Square test was carried out to check if there was a correlation between self-esteem and adolescent problems and to check if there were differences between sexes and between year groups. In general. when students have a low self-esteem they are more likely to have problems since they lack the self-confidence to handle them. Significant differences were found between male and female adolescents and between the different age groups.
