Abstract: An attempt is here made to discover and analyse the status and importance of women in Malta during the eighteenth century. Their economic labour, their religious involvement, their interaction with the various segments of society at the time, their level of education, their occasional infringement with the law and other trouble they found themselves in. This dissertation has tried to capture the actual reality and to move away from the accepted stereo type image of women in popular opinion.
