| Abstract: | The writer examines the widespread use of picture compositions and their methodological potentialities. The general techniques used in composition work are analysed with a view to establishing a pedagogical framework within which picture compositions feature. The core of the study comprises a d0tailed survey of current techniques used in the teaching of picture compositions from which emerges a methodological sequence (the"Basic Pattern") based on the writer's own theory of how picture compositions may be successfully presented. The study concludes with an assessment of the suggested methodology. This assessment was carried out in two Second Form classes comprising female students of "average-to-good" linguistic ability. |
