Abstract: The aim of this work was to investigate what are the opinions of students and teacher regarding English Literature at school. It focuses mainly on the students' opinions of the readers which they have to study in class. It also focuses on what they think about the Harry Potter books by J.K Rowling and what they think of them as readers in the classroom to be studied. This was also asked to the teachers and they were asked what they thought about the issue. From this study it emerged that the Harry Potter books do have potential as readers due to their inherent literary characteristics. However, there were various reasons for which it would be difficult to introduce the books at the present time. Other issues which also emerged from the study were the students' attitudes towards literature and reading and some factors affecting these were also investigated.
