Abstract

This work casts a look at the development of the game of soccer in Malta since its introduction over 80 years ago. It focuses attention on the present state of football on the Island as well as the pros and cons involved in the local participation in the international field along with the inherent difficulties. Moreover mention is made of some problems with which Malta soccer is constantly faced, as well as ways and means through which these could be solved or at least mitigated. Finally this study throws some light on the future of the popular game of foot ball in Malta and how it could be further developed in order to attain a more respectable level so as to compare favourably with the game overseas.
