Abstract: Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices Test was administered to 190 children (111 boys and 79 girls) aged 8 to 9 years, attending year 4 and Primary in a state school in Malta. The sample was retested after a six months period to investigate the reliability of the test. Sex- and age-differences in test performance were studied; the validity of the test was investigated by comparing the performance of children in three ability streams. The correlation between the test performance and the academic attainment was computed for this purpose as well. An item of analysis of the C.P.M. (including F- and D-indices) was also carried out.
