Abstract: This dissertation is divided in Three Chapters. In the first chapter I try to give an overview of some physical, social and educational aspects of physical education as regards the total development of children. In the second chapter, I try to give a clear description of the P.E. situation in the upper classes in the Cottonera Primary Schools of Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea. In this chapter I try to delineate what kind of P.E. lessons Cottonera children are getting and what are the problems and restrictions teachers, Head Teachers and the students are facing. I also try to give a clear account as regards the opinion of the three mayors of the three Cottonera Local Councils vis a vis the sports and recreational facilities in their cities. In the third chapter I try to give a description of what parents think about Physical Education and what kind of role should parents have in the physical development of their children. In this chapter I also report what is the opinion of the Educational Officer of Physical Education as regards the P.E. situation in the Cottonera Primary Schools and also in other schools in Malta. Finally I finish this chapter by giving my own personal opinion as regards some social problems which are present in the Cottonera and what ought to be done to try and improve the sports and recreational facilities in the Cottonera.
