| Abstract: | This is an analytical and critical study of Il-Gojjin Il-Hames Ktieb which is currently being used as a textbook for reading in some Private Primary Schools. This study includes a general introduction of Children's Literature in general, comments on the subjects suitable for children and Children's Literature as a branch of Maltese Literature. The third section comprises 3 classifications - (i) one of content into prose and poetry (ii) one of content according to topic and (iii) one showing the contribution of each author in this reader. The Fourth section shows the critical and evaluative aspects of the Dissertation and includes comments on characterization, style of writing, choice of subject and the pictures used. It also includes a comparative study between Id-Denfil 5 and Il-Gojjin - Il-Hames Ktieb. The last section includes a sample workbook comprising exercises of a grammatical nature, mainly the Verb and other exercises which promote creativity. These exercises are based on a section taken from the second classification, namely 'Storja ta' Malta' which includes excerpts from the book Il-Gojjin - Il-Hames Ktieb. |
