| Abstract: | This is a critical study of the book Id-Denfil 2, a textbook used in Year 4 of the Primary Schools in Malta and Gozo. I have classified my work in four chapters, including an introduction. In the first chapter, I have given a classified list of the content in this book under three headings: prose, poetry and drama, followed by a general critical study of this content. As the series of Id-Denfil is only a reader, I have formulated a grammatical syllabus based mainly on some grammatical rules found in this book, followed by an explanation to point out its importance. During my study, I came across some orthographical errors as well as ambiguity in the syntactic structure of certain sentences. The third chapter includes a list of these errors, followed by my comments on certain linguistic rules and syntax. I have also included my comments on certain pictures found in the book. Besides this critical analysis, I have also provided supplimentary material - Comprehension Tests, Compositions and reading passages - which is largely based on Id-Denfil 3. Lastly, I have given a general report on the experience I have acquired, during my visits to several school in Malta and Gozo, where I have mostly carried out my research work. |
