Abstract

The series of the Maltese reading books, Id-Denfil, is the text used in our Primary Schools. My work here is focused on a critical Rnalysis of Id-Denfil 2, both from the linguistic and the literary aspect of the book. My primary aim was to study the lexical element and to provide a work-book which includes reading passages and exercises complimentary to Id-Denfil 2 which is only a reader. This work is divided into four sections. The first section is devoted to 2. general classification of the vocabulary used in Id-Denfil 2, with special reference to the morphological element. The second section includes a comparative study between Id-Denfil 1 and Id-Denfil 2. The third section includes supplementary reading passages while the fourth section includes the work-book. In the Appendix I have included lists of the vocabulary found in Id-Denfil 1 and new vocabulary that I have added in the reading passages. I hope that my work will be of interest to teachers and to further research workers on the subject.
