Abstract: The aim of the study was to investigate gender and age position difference in the Secondary Education Certificate, May 2000 examinations. The sample consisted of 2500 students who were born in 1982 and who sat for the Sec Examinations in the three compulsory subjects Maltese, English and mathematics - for the first time. The data set consisted of the Grades obtained by the candidates together with their respective age position and gender. This study showed that age position differences were only found in the Maltese SEC examination. Gender differences were found in the three subjects. Girls outperformed boys in Maltese and Mathematics while gender difference favoured the males in English.
