Abstract: The Block Design Test (WISC) and the Coloured Matrices (Raven) were administered to 71Maltese children (34 boys, 37 girls) in Year6 attending a state primary school. A subsample was retested after a three-month interval. Test-retest reliabilities were found to be 0.78 for the Block Design Test and 0.92 for R.C.M. Indications of Validity were obtained by correlating each of the two tests with age and with measures of scholastic attainment o.nd by intercorrelating the two tests. In the Block Design Test the boys' performance as significantly better than that of girls while in the Matrices test no significant differences were found. The suitability of the two testE for use with Maltese children of this age was also investigated.
