Abstract: In this dissertation, the researchers focused on how visual education could be implemented in mainstream schools. The main focus of this work was to encourage children to excel and to produce material in which they showed interest. This was done to help them increase their communication skills. Following the principles of the National Minimum Curriculum, the researchers created a guidebook for teachers based on five Maltese children's photographs, after the latter themselves experimented with a digital camera. They were left free to photograph whatever intrigued them without being monitored by both parents and researchers. Four main themes were elicited and then expanded in the guidebook. Keeping the Data Protection Act in mind, the children's parents gave the researchers their consent for the photographs to be used throughout this thesis. Moreover, several teachers gave their opinions about the viability of this guidebook and their suggestions were noted and amended.
