| Abstract: | The main focus of this dissertation is to highlight the importance of drama as a valuable educational tool, and to underline the need for this technique to be included, within basic theoretical and applied teaching strategies, in the Maltese educational system. The work is divided into three main sections, the first of which covers a historical review of drama development in both the U. K. and the U.S. It also outlines the main psychological, physiological, and sociological aspects regarding drama and the child. Further more it includes a more concrete view of drama , that is, the classroom situation. The second section, deals with Malta's educational history, the emergence of drama in education in Malta, as well as the latest developments in the U.K., and the expectations for the coming years based on the work that has been going on for some years, in the U.K. The third is a practical approach, drama as a medium in practice, in Malta, suggested strategies, and finally my own opinions and suggestions based on the amount of research and experience that I may have. |
