Drama in the primary school

Abstract

This dissertation deals with educational drama. An initial evaluation of its importance and function is provided in the opening chapter. Today, drama is considered to be a subject which may be effectively integrated in the school's curriculum, very much depending, for its success, on the teacher's qualities and organisation. These aspects are tackled in chapter 2 and 3. In the primary schools, drama may function on two levels: (a) as an independent subject and (b) as a teaching method through which other subjects are taught. However, previous consideration must be given to the behaviour of the primary school child. Chapter 4 and 5 illustrate the above mentioned points. This dissertation is based on theory substantiated by practical drama sessions which are described in Chapter 6. Comments accompany the description of each session.
