Abstract: A study was made to determine the effect of exercise on asthma and exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB), and whether the result is beneficial to asthmatics. A group of 11 asthmatic schoolchildren was identified and by carrying out PEFR tests, the effect of exercise on the airways of each was determined. Two modalities were utilised, a 12- minute constant run, for aerobic exercise, and a short burst shuttle run, for anaerobic, high intensity exercise. After the first test, the children were put through a 6-week training programme, designed to improve their general physical condition, after which a second test was performed.
