Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the moral development of Maltese boys and girls aged from 6 to 10 years. The investigation was carried along Piagetian lines. Piaget/s questionnaire on moral development and stories (concerned with lying) were administered to 100 boys and girls, attending private schools in Malta. The relationships between sex and moral development and attainment and moral development were also investigated. Results showed that the level of moral development increased with age. Girls seem to mature their concept of a lie earlier than boys. It was also found that at a young age scholastic attainment seems not to be related to moral development although there seems to be a relationship as children grow older.
