| Abstract: | The aim of this dissertation is to use Nietzsche's work as a tool of reflection on the present educational system in Malta. I will do this through a reading of the philosopher combined with my reflections on my everyday experiences in class. The dissertation argues that it is important that teachers know philosophy in order to develop their philosophy of education. In particular, they should be familiar with the works of Nietzsche, who in his writings has a wealth of ideas that are insightful for the improvement of our present system. Such ideas include giving the students all that is educationally necessary to grow up with values, skills and competencies that will surely help them face better the challenges of a world that is forever changing. The dissertation shows that if teachers take Nietzsche's ideas seriously, are familiar with his educational theories, and his way of writing, they would transform education into a more holistic one, which is what the National Minimum Curriculum sets out to achieve. |
