Abstract: This study involves the identification of students with learning difficulties and presents different ways in which teachers tackle learning difficulties. The researcher sets out to determine how teachers identify students with learning difficulties and how they ultimately help these students in their mainstream classes. The research instrument that was used, together with the several interviews that were carried out, revealed that teachers are aware of these particular students and through reflection they become more conscious of their pupils' needs. The study also provides suggestions on how to identify and adapt oneself to learning difficulties, as well as methods which provide assistance to mainstream teachers.
