Abstract: Contrary to traditional education, lifelong education deals with the entire lifespan of the learner. Primary education is the foundation pf this lifespan and so this dissertation explores ways and means of how this foundation can be laid and also identifies the role of the primary school within the perspective of lifelong education. The central theme of all this work is educability which is defined in the first two chapters. The following chapters delve into the problem of how the concept curriculum is affected under the umbrella objective of the enhancement of educability and what criteria should be considered in the evaluation of such a type of curriculum. The dissertation ends with a consideration of what all this implies in actual teaching and learning practice i.e. in face-to-face relationships between learner and educator.
