Abstract: A distinct feature of commercial life in the twentieth century is that most business is carried on by companies. In Malta, especially since the enactment of the Commercial Partnerships Ordinance of 1962, it is safe to say that the company is the principal vehicle used in conducting business. Furthermore the late twentieth century has seen the development of a share ownership culture which has diffused the ownership of shares to a larger number of people than ever before.
