Abstract: The aim of the thesis is to explore the Christian perspective and understanding of the enviromnent in relation with the issue of sustainable human development. This work aims at providing an analysis of the implications of the ecological challenge at -present times. In the first part of the thesis a biblical and an anthropological analysis is made. For the second part of the thesis that deals with the interrelationship between human development and ecology, the modem Roman Catholic social tradition literature is analysed. Chapter one starts with a Biblical analysis and aims to deduce the Christian principles of environmental stewardship. Chapter two explores the reasons that Jed to the present ecological crisis. Chapter three describes the Christian understanding of the interrelationship between ecology and human development. Chapter four presents the Christian response to this question and the last chapter a new proposal for a better world.
