Abstract: For the better half of the past century the Palestinians have been the major victims of the fate of their country. They were those who suffered at the decisions of others; who had their rights jeopardised by the world powers' interests who settled their political bills at the expense of the future of Palestine, with little regard to the people living there. For many long decades there seem to have been two weights and two measures applied in the Middle East, and due to a particularly nasty series of coincidences the major losers have always been the Palestinians. The history of the Middle East has created one state to destroy another, offered a home to a people in Diaspora to make another one homeless, offered a stable future to a group of people while sending several other millions to squalid refugee camps, offered stability to one nation at the expense of another's misery. These are the inhumane side effects of the Middle East conflict; these are the situations which many hope that the peace process will bring to an end.
