Abstract: This dissertation deals with the emigrant poet Kahlil Gibran who was the most influential figure among the modern Arab-American authors. Chapter One deals with the political and social events that occurred before Kahlil Gibran was born in Lebanon. Such events were of paramount importance due to the fact that they practically influenced all his writings. Chapter Two concentrates on his life, on his sufferings before and after emigrating to the United States of America and finally on his untimely death at the age of forty-eight years. Chapter Three is an analysis of his early Arabic writings. It is hoped that it shows clearly the rebel stage of Gibranism. On account of its importance, this chapter forms an eminent part of this dissertation.
