| Abstract: | This thesis is an investigation into the worlds of dubbing and subtitling, the two major forms of audio-visual translation, from the historical background that led to their development, to their use today. The thesis also aims to examine the existence or otherwise of a dubbinq or subtitling culture In Malta, Lile way audio-visual translation Is perceived, how it is used, and whether there could be the potential for a subtitling or dubbing industry in Malta. It examines results from audience reactions to foreign films in the Maltese language and offers suggestions as to the way forward and what further research could be carried out. l he practical application of both dubbing and subtitling will also be examined. |
